Homework Policy
Homework is an important part of all classroom instruction. It reinforces all material. It is expected that students will complete all varieties of homework assignments.

 

 

Test Policy
Students will be tested on all material. Tests will be comprised of multiple choice, short answers, and essays. Students will be given advance notice of examinations. Students are expected to follow the rules for testing conditions. While tests are important, keep in mind that they account for only part of the student grade.

 

 

Quiz Policy
Quizzes will be given with, or without notice. Testing protocol must be followed during all quizzes.

 

 

Projects
Students will be expected to complete various projects throughout the year. Projects could include essays, class presentations, and research. Students are expected to complete all projects in a timely fasion.

 

 

Course Outline
This year in English I students will be reading from a variety of literature. The list will include: short stories, Greek myths and an epic, poems, biographies, and plays. Students will also learn how to apply literary techniques in order to achieve a better understanding of text. Also, this array of literature will allow students to develop a broader knowledge of vocabulary and the ability to strengthen their writing skills. Students will also be spending a great deal of time studying the grammar and punctuation rules of our language. This is extremely important in developing mature writing skills.
